Recently I noted the following on Linked In – “When I was at ODD, I was constantly asked by the staffers who’d been there for a while why the AF didn’t have an installation command like the Army or Navy…I explained how much more airpower is dependent on bases, AF doctrine for combat support, etc., but it fell on deaf ears.”
A response to the above says it all: “One base, one boss, responsible for the entire installation and the mission, to include the facilities & infrastructure he/she needs to do the mission. Been that way since we went to the objective wing… what, 20 years ago now? Seems to me that our current model is what kept us so agile & effective as CEs & is why the Joint community looks to us for competence & expeditionary engineering capability.”
